In the 1960s and 1970s, this discussion found a special place in the literature on urban development and the attitudes toward this matter experienced significant changes. This issue has been of great importance as one of the major aspects of urban planning through several decades of urban planning in Iran. However, in recent years, due to the impact of the size of cities on certain governmental policies, people and city administrators have paid greater attention to this issue, which requires particular critique and analysis. In this brief article, it is tried to provide grounds for the development of thoughts and deepening of attitudes in this area by mentioning the views of relevant scholars. بحث درباره اندازه مطلوب شهر از دیرباز مورد توجه اندیشمندان و صاحب نظران مسائل شهری بوده و از جنبه­ های مختلف مورد نقد و بررسی قرار گرفته است. در دهه های 1960 و 1970 این بحث در ادبیات شهر سازی جایگاه ویژه ­ای یافته و تحولاتی در نحوه نگرش به آن حاصل شده است. طی چند دهه سابقه برنامه ­ریزی شهری در ایران نیز این موضوع به عنوان یکی از محورهای برنامه­ ریزی شهری از اهمیت خاصی برخوردار بوده است . لیکن در سالهای اخیر به لحاظ تأثیرپذیری برخی سیاستهای دولتی از اندازه شهرها، مردم و مدیران شهری آن را بیش از پیش مورد توجه قرار داده ­اند که نقد و تحلیل­ عملی خاص خود را طلب می­ نماید. در این مختصر سعی بر آنست که تا باذکر دیدگاه­ های صاحب نظران مربوطه زمینه ­ای برای بسط اندیشه و تعمیق برخوردها در این قلمرو فراهم آید. https://www.sepehr.org/article_28415_bea41c1b949ddb068513c07855282ed9.pdf
